omp.pngOn the first day of the workshop (1 June), a visit to the Pic du Midi observatory will take place. We will leave Tarbes around 8 am to arrive at the top at 10 am (about 1 hour by bus plus 10 minutes by cable car). We will have the privilege to have a private visit commented on by the scientific director of the observatory. We will have lunch there and, in the afternoon, we will plan a presentation session of the IAMES papers directly on the site in a room reserved for us.
Within this context, this means that the first presentations will be given at 3000m altitude. Not so common.

Pic du Midi

A presentation will be given to introduce the scientific activities carried out by the researchers of the OMP laboratory (Observatoire Midi Pyrénées). The OMP contributes, in a multidisciplinary perspective, to the progress of knowledge in the fields of astronomy, physics and chemistry of the globe, oceanography and the study of continental surfaces and their interfaces. The topics are therefore very much in line with the general theme of the Workshop, environmental modeling. OMP carries out its missions through the acquisition of observational data, the development and exploitation of appropriate means, the elaboration of tools and methods, in the continuity required by the time scales of the phenomena, the needs of monitoring and forecasting of natural environments, and even their protection and exploitation. This presentation will be instrumented by a visit of the installations of the pic du midi. It is an astronomical observatory located at 2877 meters on top of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre in the French Pyrenees. It belongs to the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) and is part of the Midi- Pyrenees Observatory (which has additional research stations in the southwestern French towns, as well as many partnerships in South America, Africa, and Asia).
